Greenhouse finished

Today I started on the greenhouse at 8:30, so it's just as well I'd finished by 5:45! Admittedly I also sowed some seeds towards the end.

Here are the results. I'm pleased with it. It hasn't been disinfected and the guttering and broken pane need fixing, but I'm going to called it finished for now and attend to those next winter.

I sowed some more Sutton broad beans, all but one of the ones I sowed outdoors having disappeared (I suspect to mice), and some Telephone peas. I love eating peas!

  2. Of course what you're not beign shown is the lawn... which is now covered in piles of plastic pots. Many will have to go back in, although having spent ages fiddling about with little pots and little labels this evening, I'm vowing to use trays more often in future! (and thank you, Tina and Zeb)

  3. That's fantastic Emily. I bet you're so excited to have that new space to work in. I'm looking for something to serve as a greenhouse, especially since I bought a ton more seeds. Look forward to seeing yours fill up with lots of lovely plants!

  5. How wonderful -- it looks really great, and I swear I can smell that steamy soil from here. :) (After reading your "profile information" in the sidebar, I see we have a LOT in common.)

  7. Hi Emily, I tried to leave this comment last night but something was acting up again. You did a great job on that greenhouse, I especially like the idea of the seat, might even ask my boss if I can have one!! The old greenhouses are great but like you say they're a bit more work to maintain. The main thing is to keep them painted because that not only protects the woodwork but it also helps keep the glass from slipping. The trouble is these estate owners don't seem to appreciate what they have half the time and so neglect the painting of greenhouses prefering instead to repair 15 years down the line which is way too late and so you end up with a building like the old part of the conservatory which is now no good for man nor beast. I'm now wondering what your next project is. Bob.

  8. Oh yes I meant to say, I find it better to make my early sowings of broad beans in pots in the greenhouse. You still have to watch out for mice but at least you know they won't rot in the soil. Its not a big job to plant them out later.
